A woman put her hands around the neck of a bar worker and attempted to bite a police officer at a city pub.

Shelley Hendry (45) was at The Kings Highway in Church Street, Inverness when she was asked to leave by two staff, but she kicked off on April 25 last year.

Fiscal depute Sophie Marshall told Sheriff Gary Aitken at Inverness Sheriff Court that Hendry had threatened to kill the staff who had approached her.

She said: “The accused threatened to assault them and punch them in the face and pull them to the ground.

“She threatened to kill them.

“She was throwing her hands in a choking gesture.

“She launched at one witness with both hands around his neck and dug her nails in. The man had to remove her and had scratches around his neck.

“The other witness called for police assistance and the accused shouted towards them that she would ‘grab their hair and pull them across the bar.’

“When the police officers arrived, she kicked one police officer and bit him on the left arm, but did not break the skin.

“When another police officer put on the handcuffs, she attempted to punch them.”

Hendry, of Kelhead Path, Glasgow, pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner and assault.

Sheriff Aitken gave her a community payback order with supervision for 12 months.

He said: “You have a number of issues you need support with.”

Hendry’s defence solicitor, Graham Mann, said: “This lady has not been in trouble for a long time. She became hysterical and had had far too much to drink.”
