‘You are 50 and need to sort yourself out’ – sheriff’s message to abusive man after couple’s Inverness trip turns sour
A Wick couple’s weekend visit to Inverness proved to be more expensive than one of them had expected.
George Newlands fell out with his partner in the Jury’s Inn and it cost him a fine of £360.
The 50-year-old admitted having behaved in a threatening or abusive manner at the hotel on December 5, last year.
Fiscal depute Grant McLennan told Wick Sheriff Court that the incident was triggered when the accused took exception to his partner contacting someone on her mobile phone,
Newlands, of Bexley Terrace, Wick, overheard the conversation and told her he didn’t think the person was someone she should be phoning.
The accused shouted and swore and acted in an aggressive manner.
A plea of not guilty to an additional charge that Newlands assaulted the woman was accepted by Mr McLennan.
Passing sentence, Sheriff Sara Matheson told him: “You are 50 and need to sort yourself out.”
