Inverness sheriff tells pensioner after domestic disturbance: ‘You need to be careful with your love of brandy’
An Inverness pensioner and his long-time partner liked a brandy but a court was told that drinking a bottle-and-a-half of the liquor in the space of a few hours led to a 67-year-old man being arrested for a domestic disturbance.
Inverness Sheriff Court heard that Malcolm Chisholm and his partner Lorraine enjoyed whisky but their preference changed to brandy and having drunk a considerable quantity from 3pm into the small hours, they fell out.

Chisholm, of Cuthbert Road, Inverness appeared at court and admitted threatening or abusive behaviour by having a verbal argument with his partner and grabbing her wrists on February 18.
Defence solicitor Kevin Hughes told Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald: "They have been in a relationship for over 20 years and never married. They are both looking after each other as both are pensioners and each have health problems. Both drink regularly and it used to be whisky. But now brandy is their favourite and on this occasion they drank a bottle-and-a-half which influenced what happened.
"His partner phoned the police but then refused to co-operate and give a statement."
Sheriff Macdonald deferred sentence on Chisholm for six months for his good behaviour and he must return to court on August 28.
She added: "You need to be careful with your love of brandy and you have to be good to Lorraine. If you have been of good behaviour, then I will treat you leniently."
