CALEY Thistle have French winger Claude Gnakpa until the end of the season.

The 28-year-old was allowed to English League One side Walsall by mutual consent.

He signed for the Saddlers from Luton Town last summer and played 26 times this season, while being a long-term target of Inverness manager Terry Butcher.

"I have been tracking Claude for a good number of years, but never managed to get him so we’re very pleased that he has flown north and put pen to paper," said the gaffer.

"He’s big, strong and pacy and can score goals, so he will be a very exciting asset to the club."

He becomes the Scottish Premier League side’s third French player — alongside Gregory Tade and Kenny Gillet — and second new recruit this week, after striker Sam Winnall yesterday signed on loan from English Premiership club Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The additions strengthen Caley Thistle’s attacking ranks ahead of tomorrow’s game against St Mirren at Tulloch Caledonian Stadium.

"It gives us more depth in a pool which has continuously been depleted by serious injuries," Butcher added.

The Marseille-born 6ft 2ins attacker can also play defence.

His career includes spells at Montpellier, Beaucaire, Racing Santander, Alaves, FC Vaduz, Peterborough United before joining Luton, where he scored 22 goals including the extra time winner against Scunthorpe United in the Football League Trophy final at Wembley Stadium in 2009.
