Nairn County manager Sharp wants to take shooting boots into Highland League Cup match at Rothes

Nairn County manager Ronnie Sharp is hoping to use some momentum from the 7–2 win over Deveronvale last Saturday to get past Rothes in the Highland League Cup.

Tomorrow night will be the third attempt at playing the knockout tie after two postponements for unplayable pitches, and Wee County are fresh off a first win in over a month.

Sharp is expecting a tricky challenge against a side two spots above Nairn in the Highland League table, and thinks his team will have to play at maximum capacity to get a result.

“It’s a tough game for us, Rothes are going well and they have home advantage,” Sharp said.

“Ross Jack has come in and had a good start, they’ve got a good squad.

“They have built it up over the last couple of years, they’ve brought in some really good players.

“We know we’ll have to be at our best to get something from the game, but I’m just hoping it will be on.”

Fraser Dingwall has served a two-match suspension and is available, while Sharp is waiting to see how Craig Munro is after illness.

There are also doubts over Cohen Ramsay and Adam Naismith, who both picked up knocks against Deveronvale.

Meanwhile, injured trio Tom Maclennan, Callum Maclean and Dylan Mackenzie are still out.

Mackenzie has been a long-term absentee from the forward line, but Nairn did not miss him last Saturday as Liam Shewan and Max Ewan both scored hat tricks, with veteran Glenn Main grabbing the other goal.

“We needed the win more than anything,” he admitted.

“To score a few goals was just a bonus. We’ve been making a lot of chances but not taking them, so it was good to see the boys finally taking them.

“Hopefully they will get confidence out of it now, and go and kick on in the next few weeks.

“That’s what we’re hoping for, it’s always good to score a few goals, especially at home.”
