The 29-year-old suffered the injury in Caley Thistle's 2-0 win at Ayr United last weekend when he was taken off the pitch after 25 minutes.

The injury blow comes after Welsh has only recently recovered from a broken metatarsal against Alloa in March.

Manager John Robertson said: "It’s his metatarsal, his opposite metatarsal this time.

"He is going to spend a similar amount of time out again, it may be three or four months out again.

"It’s unfortunate that it is his other foot, he’ll go for a operation next week and then he’ll start the long rehab back.”

Welsh had scored twice in his last three games before suffering the injury at Somerset Park.
