Caley Thistle boss Robertson confirms flare-up pair were punished
However, he insists - despite some pictures appearing to show otherwise - no punches were thrown between the pair and the situation was calmed down quickly.
The incident happened when Polworth was taken off with four minutes left in the 3-0 Irn-Bru Cup third round victory against League Two Peterhead.
Out of view from most people in the main stand, the player and first-team coach pointed fingers and roared at one another and needed Robertson and players and staff within the dug-out to step in and cool the anger.
They were clearly seething with one another after the player seemed to point over to the bench as the game continued to argue the case, perhaps with coaching staff.
Polworth opened the scoring with a deflected shot after just 90 seconds then set up Ricky Calder for the second goal six minutes into the second half.

The tie finished on a high note when 16-year-old Daniel Mackay headed home a third goal for ICT just moments after stepping off the bench on his debut.
Robertson replied to our Monday morning requests later that day(after the Inverness Courier had gone to press) after speaking to both parties and set the record straight for ICT supporters.
"We have had an internal investigation and I needed time to get Liam's point of view after speaking to Scott after the game," he explained.
"It was an argument which got out of hand. Scott had given Liam instructions, which he had taken issue with.
"I know the pictures look bad, but no punches were thrown, there was no physical contact at that level. It was a heated war of words, but they have been made aware that was simply unacceptable.
"Football can be a very passionate game, but it is frustrating that this happened in a public place during a game and it simply cannot happen again.
"We needed to hear from both players and that is why we couldn't answer questions on the matter on Monday."
The ICT boss added: "I have spoken to the chairman, Graham Rae, and Danny Macdonald (ICT's chief operating officer) and it is clear that there cannot be a repeat of what happened.
"However, I must stress that, despite how it looks from the pictures, no punches were thrown and the matter has been dealt with by way of an internal investigation."
