Defender describes what Inverness Caley Thistle boss wants from his players on the pitch
CAMERON Harper says the one word to describe training sessions under manager Duncan Ferguson is intense.
But he says that Inverness Caledonian Thistle are benefitting from it and it is starting to show in the results.
After going on a winless run of 10 matches in all competitions and previously being at the bottom of the league, Inverness are now undefeated in their last four league matches.
Picking up eight points out of a possible 12 since Ferguson was appointed in September, Inverness are off the foot of the table and looking to surge up the Championship.
Harper has attributed the improvement in form to intense training sessions under Ferguson which he says while tough, is what the squad needed to turn things around.
"Intense is one word for it," said Harper.
"But it was what we needed.
"He demands from us every day, you can't be slack for one second and a few of the boys like it.
"Don't get me wrong, we are sore after a couple of hard sessions, but everyone is really enjoying it and especially when it is getting results."
Harper described the main tasks Ferguson has asked from his players on the pitch which he believes they are implementing well on the pitch.
He says it was the reason they got a point at Tannadice yesterday in a 1-1 draw against leaders Dundee United.
Harper says: "Credit to the gaffer, he has told us to be brave on the ball, he wants us to pass it, he wants us to drag people out to different positions.
"You could see in the first half it was working well. We got around a few times and built from the back. We were happy with that. "Maybe if we can do it for longer periods, we could be in a better position over the 90 minutes.
"As soon as the gaffer came in he has given us that confidence, he has made us believe in each other and that has told in the last four results.
"Everyone is working and believing in each other. We are undefeated in four, we will look to keep it going and not let it slip."
Nathan Shaw gave Inverness Caledonian Thistle the lead six minutes into the second half when he connected with a cross from Harper from the left wing.
The lead only lasted four minutes when Kevin Holt was allowed a free header from a corner kick to level the game at 1-1.
Harper says Inverness were worth a point against Dundee United, but admitted the dressing room's frustration they conceded a goal from a set piece.
He said: "They are the title favourites, they have the biggest budget, they have good players, so to take a point was good, but I am a bit frustrated.
"In the first half we felt that we were the dominant team, created a lot of chances, good chances, maybe could maybe be a couple of goals up.
"In the second half we came out and started well and obviously got the goal. When I crossed it for Nathan and he scored, I thought we fancied it.
"But a corner kick kills us a few minutes later. It was frustrating that it was a set piece and not open play we conceded from.
"I thought someone was blocked, but it was a great header from Kevin Holt. It was a sucker punch, but we did well to weather the storm.
"In the second half they were the better team and we struggled to put them under pressure."
