Brechin City confirm they have appointed former Dundee United and Raith Rovers boss as permanent manager of Highland League club

FORMER Dundee United and Raith Rovers manager Ray McKinnon has been appointed permanent manager of Highland League club Brechin City.

The 54-year-old, who was appointed caretaker manager last month after Patrick Cregg was sacked, was appointed to the role permanently last night.

Brechin City finished in second place in the Highland League this season on goal difference when Brora Rangers finished as champions last weekend.

McKinnon led Brechin City to a strong finish to the Highland League season winning eight of their final nine matches.

The run included an impressive 2-0 victory away from home against eventual Champions Brora Rangers and a 4-1 victory over Formartine United - City's first league win at North Lodge Park since entering the Highland League.

It is his second spell in charge of Brechin City, he managed the club previously between 2012-2015 where he led City to two promotion play-off finishes in League One before leaving to join Raith Rovers.

He went on to have stints in charge of Dundee United, Greenock Morton, Falkirk, Queens Park and Forfar Athletic.

Meanwhile, Grant Street Park in Inverness is set to host the Highland League Cup final on Saturday afternoon as Brora Rangers take on Fraserburgh with kick-off at 3pm.

A number of Inverness teams are also playing in the Highland Amateur Cup preliminary round on Saturday afternoon.

It was also confirmed yesterday that Nairn County have appointed Kevin Reid as their new chairman, but they are still looking for a new manager.
