Highland League outfit Brora Rangers announce signing of former Inverness Caley Thistle, Elgin City and Peterhead attacker Shane Sutherland

Brora Rangers have announced the signing of Shane Sutherland on a three-year deal.

The Wick native is a former Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Peterhead and Elgin City player, with an excellent goalscoring record in the lower leagues of Scottish football.

His exploits at Borough Briggs especially, where he scored 93 goals in 188 appearances in all competitions across three spells at the club, saw him named in the League Two team of the year in 2015.

That earned him a return to the Caledonian Stadium in 2020, but he has not played in two years after suffering an ACL injury in the Premiership play-off semi final against Arbroath.

Brora acknowledged that lay-off in their announcement, saying: “The 33-year-old Wick native is currently focusing on returning to playing from suffering an ACL injury.

“Everyone at the club is delighted to have Shane signed and cannot wait to see him out on the pitch wearing that Brora strip.”

Sutherland has recently been in the headlines for organising a fundraiser for Aaron Doran, who suffered the same injury as Sutherland but has seen Caley Thistle cancel an operation to repair the ligament twice, which has raised thousands of pounds.
