Midfielder who was at Inverness Caledonian Thistle for six years is new manager at Raith Rovers - He played for Celtic, Dundee United, Middlesbrough, Vancouver Whitecaps, Sheffield United and Scotland - Also played for and was manager of Aberdeen
FORMER Inverness Caledonian Thistle midfielder Barry Robson has been unveiled as the new manager of Championship club Raith Rovers.
The 46-year-old has been named as boss at the Kirkcaldy club following the departure of Niall Collins to take up the role of head coach at USL Championship club Sacramento Republic.
Born in Inverurie in Aberdeenshire, Robson came through the Rangers youth system before turning professional with Inverness Caledonian Thistle in 1997.
He spent six years at the Caledonian Stadium between 1997 and 2003 playing 135 times and scoring 17 goals.
He helped them win promotion from the Second Division in 1999. He spent most of the 1999–2000 season on loan at Forfar Athletic, but on his return became a first team regular.
Robson signed for Dundee United in 2003 for a figure estimated to be between £50,000 and £100,000.

He spent five years at Tannadice between 2003 and 2008 playing 145 times before then moving to Celtic in January 2008.
He moved to England two years later to sign for Middlesbrough before moving to Canada to play in the MLS for Vancouver Whitecaps in 2012. He returned to England in 2013 to sign for Sheffield United before signing for Aberdeen where he played until 2016.
He also won 17 caps for Scotland between 2007 and 2012.
In February 2022, Robson became interim manager of Aberdeen following the sacking of Stephen Glass. He was also appointed interim manager at Pittodrie following Jim Goodwin being sacked in January 2023.
Following a run of seven consecutive wins that pushed Aberdeen into third place in the 2022–23 Scottish Premiership, Robson signed a two-year contract to continue as manager in May 2023.
But he was sacked eight months later last January following the Dons being in eighth place in the table.
Speaking about being placed in charge at Stark’s Park, Robson said: “It’s a great honour to be appointed as the manager of Raith Rovers, and I’m truly excited about the challenge ahead.
The club’s potential is clear to see, and the vision shared by the Board of Directors during our discussions made this an opportunity I was eager to be part of.”
