He scored a penalty to earn Nairn County a 2–2 draw with Keith in their Highland League clash at Station Park on Saturday.

The 39-year-old Irishman returned to Nairn County in 2021 for his second spell at the club. He originally played for Nairn County between 2011 and 2016 after arriving from Peterhead.

He also spent five seasons at Formartine United before returning to Station Park two years ago.

During his career, Gethins also played for Ross County as well as Stirling Albion, Forfar Athletic, Finn Harps and Galway United.

Nairn County fell behind midway through the first half on Saturday when Liam Duncan was clipped in the box and he managed to convert a penalty to put Keith in front.

Scott Davidson equalised for Nairn County 10 minutes into the second half as he fired home a strike from 12-yards out.

Keith regained the lead in the 66th minute when James Brownie fired in a thunderous effort from 15-yards out.

But Gethins saved Nairn County a point when they were awarded a penalty after Dem Yunus was guilty of handball.

The midfielder kept his composure to fire home to earn his team a draw.

Elsewhere, the Highland League title race remains in the balance after Brechin City and Buckie Thistle both won – 4-0 over Turriff and 3-2 at Forres respectively.

All three teams still vying for third place were also victorious.

Formartine, who currently occupy the position, fought past Deveronvale 2-1, while Brora Rangers won 4-2 away at Inverurie Locos.

Fraserburgh are a little further behind, but saw off Rothes 2-0 regardless.

Banks O’Dee were the big winners of the day, putting seven goals past Lossiemouth as they look set for a mid-table finish after a 24-point deduction in their first season at this level.

Wick Academy’s efforts to end their losing streak went unrewarded, meanwhile, losing 1-0 at home against Huntly.

Martin Callum was Clachnacuddin’s saviour against Strathspey Thistle, scoring late in the day to save a point in a 2–2 draw.

James Anderson had opened the scoring for Clach in the eighth minute, but Strathspey – bottom of the table – fought back.

Goals either side of half time from Jack Davison and Ross Logan, who is a familiar face to Clach supporters having come through the ranks at Grant Street before leaving permanently for the Jags back in December, turned the game on its head.

However, Strathspey were reduced to 10 men, giving the Lilywhites added impetus to push for a result.

Eventually, that came from Callum five minutes before the final whistle.
