Inverness Caley Thistle record goalscorer Billy Mckay backed to return to form by head coach Scott Kellacher after Alloa penalty miss
Inverness Caledonian Thistle head coach Scott Kellacher has backed the club’s all-time leading scorer Billy Mckay to come good in front of goal.
The 36-year-old is a legendary figure at the Caledonian Stadium, but has only scored twice in 37 appearances across all competitions this season.
He had a chance to break a nine-match goalless run on Saturday when presented with a penalty against Alloa Athletic, but saw Peter Morrison deny him.
With Mckay visibly gutted when later withdrawn, Kellacher has backed him to start finding the net again on a regular basis soon.
"Billy was gutted and understandably so,” Kellacher reasoned.
"He gives us everything, every day in both roles as assistant manager and on the pitch. Nobody wants to score more than Billy Mckay does, and he has scored goals all his days.

"He's frustrated and gutted, but Billy will come good. He will keep working away and come up trumps when we need him.
"The previous penalty we had was at Annan and Billy took it and scored.
"I didn't see Saturday's penalty. I looked away, but by all accounts, Alloa keeper Peter Morrison has pulled off two great saves (including the follow-up).
"We've seen penalties missed before and I won't dwell too much on that.”
Although he did not score himself, Mckay did play a role in Caley Thistle’s goal, helping the ball on to Alfie Stewart to find the net in the first half.
Kellacher feels that is evidence that Mckay is still contributing to the team, even without adding to his record-breaking tally.
"Billy has all the experience in the world,” Kellacher added.
"He's not this club's top goal scorer for nothing. He will come good and I've no problems with that. He's been great and he'll keep working as hard as he can.
"Billy set up Alfie for his goal and it was a great finish.
"Alfie took his goal really well, and that's what he can do. We're just trying to push him on, because he has all the ability in the world.
"The wee man has got so much to offer. He's a really nice footballer, we just need to push him on because he had a lot more to come.”
