Inverness Caledonian Thistle head coach not happy with his team’s performance in heavy defeat to Queen of the South in Dumfries

HEAD coach Scott Kellacher described the goals Inverness Caledonian Thistle conceded in their 4-1 humbling by Queen of the South as criminal.

He was not happy at all with his team’s performance as they threw away the lead and imploded in the second half to go down to defeat in Dumfries on Saturday.

Alfie Stewart did give Inverness the lead midway through the first half but Jack Hannah equalised as the teams were level at the break.

Jordan Allan put Queen of the South in front with former Inverness Caledonian Thistle striker Adam Brooks scoring twice to secure victory for the Doonhammers.

Speaking on Inverness Caledonian Thistle social media after the match, Kellacher did not hide his displeasure about the team’s performance.

He said: “I am not happy at all. That is not what we’re all about and what we have done up to this point in terms of working hard.

“The first half we did really well and started the game the way that we wanted. We got the goal and from then, we don’t seem like we want to go for the second goal.

“It is not for the want of trying, we tried to be positive when we score the game to try and get the second goal and give ourselves a breather.

“We sat in and thought we done enough and we were far from it. After the first 30 minutes we were really poor, stop making passes and working hard and taking chances. We are far better than that and that is the hard part to take.

“They wanted it more and that was the frustrating part, all round in the second half we were really poor.

“In the last few matches, even though we didn’t win, I still felt we played well in the games. But in the second half the goals we gave away were criminal. You can’t lose goals like that in games of football and expect to win games.”

Inverness are in eighth place and only above the relegation play-off zone on goal difference as Annan Athletic beat Kelty Hearts 2-1 to move on to 33 points.

With five games left of the regular season, Kellacher says improvement is required to secure their place in League One next season.

He said: “It is coming down to the nitty gritty part of the season. I know how hard it is going to be. We need to get the fans behind us, the boys will work extra hard and get the final push over the line, but we need to be far better.”
