Davie Carson says Highland's success has sparked more interest in the club on and off the pitch.

Highland RFC head coach Dave Carson says his team are ready to make their mark in National Two this season as they play their league opener against Preston Lodge at Canal Park on Saturday.

The Greens won the National Three championship last season to be promoted into the third tier of Scottish club rugby.

Highland were in training last weekend when their National League Cup first round clash with Glasgow Accies was cancelled as their opponents were unable to raise a team.

Highland have been given a bye into the next round of the National League Cup but Carson says it was not the way that they wanted to progress saying they would rather have played at New Anniesland last weekend.

Despite the disappointment, Carson says his players are still pumped up for Saturday’s game saying they are looking to start their campaign with a home win.
