Inverness and Elgin table tennis players are selected to play for Scotland against Northern Ireland at under-15 match.





TALENTED table tennis players from Inverness and Elgin have been called up to play for Scotland this weekend.

Connor Cadden (14) from Inverness and Alexander Stepney (12) from Elgin have been chosen to represent their country against Northern Ireland at under-15 level.

The two boys faced each other in the Highland Table Tennis League in Inverness last weekend, with Stepney coming out on top in a thrilling five-set match.

Both youngsters are the top players in Inverness and Moray respectively.

Such was the interest in this contest that Table Tennis Scotland Director of Performance Stephen Gertsen and Regional Pathways Manager Callum Riddoch were both in attendance to analyse their performances.

The second round of the Highland Table Tennis League took place on Sunday with 15 matches played at Inverness Tennis and Squash Club. Teams from as far afield as Wick, Fort William, Tain and Elgin took part. With two thirds of the matches now completed Inverness 'A' lead the way closely followed by Tain and Inverness 'B'. These three teams meet on the final day's play in March.
