Inverness Athletic looking to recruit under-18s players for new season
Inverness Athletic Football Club will be going on a recruitment drive when they return for pre-season training in mid-July, holding trials for new players to join their under-18 squad.
Last season, Athletic’s young guns finished as runners-up to Alness United in their first campaign in the Under-18 Highland League North, ending it above many established Highland League clubs after winning 12 of their 20 matches in the division.
Now, they will be looking to push on again in the 2023/24 campaign and remain competitive at the top end of the table against the likes of Alness, Forres Mechanics, Wick Academy and Clachnacuddin.
With several players also featuring for Inverness Athletic’s senior side in the North Caledonian League during the course of last season, the opportunity to progress into senior football is also on offer.
Under-18 coach Graham Linton says the club impressed last season and now they are looking to take the next step and give youngsters greater opportunities.
“As a new club, to finish second in our first season above some well-known clubs – and in a very competitive league – was beyond our aims at the start of the campaign,” he said.

“It was a tremendous effort by what was essentially a new squad, and although it was disappointing to just fall short the players can be proud of their efforts.
“We now want to build on that and what we can offer our young players is not only football at a very good level at under-18s, but also a genuine chance to push into the first team – where many of our youngsters last season were given the opportunity to train and play with the seniors.
“This is a club really going places, with big ideas for the future and we can’t wait to get going again and push on this season.”
