MANAGER Duncan Ferguson says Inverness Caledonian Thistle must make sure they are not on the end of a Scottish Cup upset when they welcome Lowland League outfit Cowdenbeath in the third round.

Inverness reached the Scottish Cup final last season, taking out Premiership opposition Livingston and Kilmarnock on their way to the final before losing 3-1 to Celtic.

Ferguson says they must put last season behind them and focus on doing a professional job against Cowdenbeath, who will be looking to cause an upset.

He said: “All games are tough, but we are expected to beat Cowdenbeath.

“All the bigger clubs taking on the smaller clubs will be saying the same thing. Make sure it is not you making the headlines. We want to make sure we are winning this match. We are preparing for the game as well. It would be good for the club to get deep into the tournament.”

Ferguson remains undefeated as manager of Caley Thistle with no defeats in his six matches since taking over from Billy Dodds.

He says he does not expect standards to drop against Cowdenbeath,

"The team has done really well.

"Obviously, we'd like to have picked up more wins, but certainly we're competitive and are a strong team.

"We've done very well in all our games and we were a wee bit unlucky on Saturday not to see the game out, but we played well and created chances, so I am really pleased with the players.

"There is always pressure. You don't want to be the team which loses in the Scottish Cup against a team from a lower division.

"We don't want to be part of that kind of headline.

"There is still pressure, but it's a different type of pressure, because it's a game we're expected to win and we're at home. I'm looking forward to it."
