Inverness City Boxing Club bring home medals from Scottish Novice Championships
Inverness City Boxing Club brought home three medals from the Scottish Novice Championships at Ravenscraig.
Kian Stewart became a national champion when he won gold in the 42kg category defeating Muhammad Al-Mefalni of KO Kings Club in Glasgow in his competitive debut at the national championships.
There was also success for his cousin Robert Stewart who won a silver medal in the 46kg section and his club mate Jonathan Kamphan who was second in the 52kg class.
Culloden Academy pupil Kian (12) who has been at the club for seven years, said he was delighted he could make such an impact on his competitive debut.
“It was a hard contest in the final, but it was good to compete and get the win,” said Kian.
“The fight went the distance but I managed to get the win on points.
“I just love boxing and it is has been a lifelong love for me and my brothers.

“One day I am looking to become a professional boxer.”
Millburn Academy pupil Robert (13) was also pleased to come away with a silver medal and says the experience has given him the ambition to go one better.
“It was a really good experience and atmosphere and it felt really good to be down there and compete in the final.” he said.
Inverness High School pupil Jonathan (14) also enjoyed the experience and is also looking to return to the Novice Championships and become a national champion.
“My ambition is to go back to the championships in October and win the gold,” he said.
Head coach Laurie Redfern said all three fighters did him proud as the club turn their attention to the professional homecoming show at the Drumrossie Hotel on Saturday, March 5.
“It has been a great experience for all of them,” said Redfern.
