Inverness hammer thrower wins major accolade

INVERNESS Harriers hammer thrower Matt MacFarlane was rewarded for his impressive season when he received The Alan Bertram Trophy for his excellence and commitment in the sport.

The award is decided across the summer among the leading Scottish junior hammer throwers and MacFarlane’s other achievements include claiming the National and the Scottish Schools under-17 titles and selection for three internationals at under-17 and under-18 levels.

The 16-year-old received the award after competing at the Throws Grand Prix in Livingston on Sunday.

It was a double celebration as he also recorded his fifth personal best of the season with a throw of 52.91 metres.

MacFarlane said it was an huge honour to receive the award as he aims to make further strides in the sport in the next few years.
