Inverness ice skaters set to take on teams from Finland, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Germany, Poland, Italy, Netherlands, Spain and Belgium at major competition





ICE skaters from Inverness and across the Highlands are set to take on top competition from across Europe.

Highland Synchronised Ice Skating Teams will be travelling to Milan to compete at the Easter Milano Trophy at Sesto San Giovanni in Italy.

The squad will fly out to Italy next week and will take part in the competition which starts on Saturday, April 12.

Highland Synchronised Ice Skating Teams will be sending three teams to the competition.

It will include Aurora who are current Scottish champions and will be competing in the basic novice category, skating at an international competition for the first time.

The club’s mixed age team Northern Lights will be skating in their second international competition and their adult team Highlanders will be the first team to take to the ice in the competition with it also the first time they have competed abroad.

Club spokeswoman Sarah Mackintosh said: “This is the first time this competition has been held and we are delighted to be representing Great Britain.

“We will be competing against teams from Finland, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Germany, Poland, Italy, Netherlands, Spain and Belgium.”

Last year, Highland Synchronised Ice Skating Teams competed in international competition when they took part at the Mixed Age Trophy in Montpellier in France.
