Squash - Inverness is set to host Scottish Championship in May - North Kessock athlete is defending men’s champion
INVERNESS Squash Club will be hosting the top players in the country after being selected to host the Scottish National Championship next month.
The top players in Scotland will be competing at the event which is scheduled to take place between Friday, May 16 and Sunday, May 18.
The three-day event will be hosting the men’s championship and women’s championship and is open to all players who meet eligibility to represent Scotland.
It is the latest major event Inverness Squash Club has been selected to host.
In 2023, Inverness hosted the Scottish Open, with the men’s competition won by Edmon Lopez of Spain and the women’s competition was won by Grace Gear from England.

Inverness also hosted the Scottish Open in 2021 with the women’s title won by England's Georgina Kennedyand the men’s title won by Sebastien Bonmalais from France.
Inverness Tennis and Squash Club manager Ailsa Polworth says the venue’s experience of holding major competitions in the past is why it has been selected to host the Scottish Championships next month.
She said: “As far as we are aware, this is the first time that the Scottish Championship will be held in Inverness.
“That in itself makes a big honour to hosting the event and to well the highest level of players.
“We have proved that we can hold events of this level in the past by holding the Scottish Open.
“We can put on a really good event and we are looking forward to welcome these standards of players and a high level of squash.
“It also planned that matches from the court will be streamed and will open up to more people to watch the action.”
Last year, North Kessock athlete Greg Lobban won the Scottish Championship for the fourth time in his career with Georgia Addersley from Edinburgh winning the women’s title for the third time.
Munlochy athlete Alan Clyne has been Scottish champion 10 times in his career.
