Inverness teenagers Aidan and Ciaran Lennan claim nine gold medals at Scottish Open in Edinburgh – with elder kickboxing brother also becoming a double grand champion

Aidan and Ciaran Lennan once again starred at the WAKO Scottish Open, taking a total of nine gold medals back to Inverness with them.

Both teenagers have a strong record at the national event, held this year at the Meadowbank Leisure Centre in Edinburgh, and did not disappoint in the 2025 edition.

Younger brother Ciaran, a pupil at Charleston Academy, competed in the older cadets age category across the kick light, light contact and points disciplines.

At the under-52kg level, he won gold in kick light, silver in the light contact and bronze in the points.

However, he also fought up a weight class in the points competition, earning a silver medal in the under-57kg category.

Older brother Aidan, a student at UHI, had a perfect weekend in Scotland’s capital, claiming an incredible eight gold medals.

Competing in the junior male age category, he came out on top in the under-63kg points, light contact and kick light competitions, before also fighting up a weight class and prevailing in the under-69kg light contact and kick light categories.

As well as those successes, Aidan competed in the junior openweight points competition, winning that to become junior grand champion.

At senior men’s level, he would team up with Dean Apicella to claim another gold in the tag team event, before the friends could have turned foes in the final of the senior men’s openweight grand champion competition.

In that final, there was a prize of £1200 at stake as well as the title, but the teammates decided not to face off against each other and instead split the accolade, and the money, taking home £600 each.

These latest medals add to the tally earned by both Lennans at the British Championships in February and the Italian World Cup in March.

Next up will be a trip to a Great Britain training camp, before Aidan – who was also named Scotland’s young athlete of the year for 2024 – returns to competitive action at the Hungarian World Cup in June.
