Inverness Athletic’s under-18s had no answer to the Wick Academy question this past Sunday, as the latest side to fall victim to the unbeaten young Scorries in the Highland League North division.

Things started badly for the North Kessock side, going 1-0 down to a Ben Durrand goal after just 11 minutes, before the Caithness youngsters doubled their advantage eight minutes later through Owen Bain.

It was 3-0 three minutes before the half hour mark when John Hooker put another past Athletic stopper Aaron Hargreaves.

Hooker found the net again on 59 minutes to make it 4-0, before George Ewing added a fifth three minutes later.

A miserable afternoon for Inverness ended with a Jayden Bremner goal on 70 minutes to make it six.

Alness United were on cloud nine at Dalmore Park after going on the rampage at home to Rothes.

The highest placed of this season’s Ross-shire sides, United have won five of their seven matches so far, moving into fourth place in the Highland League North league table.

Despite the eventual 9-0 scoreline, the black and whites netted just twice in the first half, with Deacon Walker and Jayden Loughlin on target.

Further goals from Chris Matejewicz, Corey Kelly and Eoghan McKay made it 5-0 with an hour played.

Any hopes of a reprieve for the Speysiders were quickly dashed when Ewan Stewart and Jamie Macleod combined to net a brace each in the space of just five minutes.

Clachnacuddin kept their foot on the pedal with a 2-1 win at home to Buckie Thistle to move on to 15 points alongside Alness and defending champions, Balloan.

Second half strikes from Alex Heggie and Jason Minard put the young Lilywhites ahead at Culcairn Park in Evanton.

A 57th minute goal from Finlay White halved the deficit, but the Inverness side held on for an impressive three points.

At Dingwall Academy, Nairn County held the the hosts to a goalless first half before Seamas Henderson broke the deadlock just two minutes into the second period.

Dingwall went 2-0 up just five minutes later when Fraser Coyne found the net, all but ending the game as a contest.

An impressive second half performance was rounded off with a goal from Ryan MacNamara on 71 minutes.

Elsewhere in the league, Lossiemouth showed no mercy beating North West Skye 8-0, while Forres Mechanics won 3-0 at home to Keith.
