Delay to Megan Keith's 5000m heat at the World Athletics Championships as Inverness athlete discovers who she will be racing against

Megan Keith will be going up against the top two 5000m runners in the world – but a little later than originally planned.

The women's 5000m heats at the World Athletics Championships had originally been due to take place this morning, beginning at 10.10am.

However, a change to the schedule means that Keith will now be taking to the track on Wednesday evening instead.

She will be competing in heat one at 6.02pm UK-time, and the splits for the heats have also been revealed.

Keith now knows that she will be going up against the number one and number two ranked runners in the world – Kenya's Beatrice Chebet and the USA's Alicia Monson respectively – in the tougher of the two heats based on world rankings.

It has also been confirmed that the top eight finishers out of 20 runners in each heat will make it through to the final.

Live coverage of the World Athletics Championships does not begin on BBC One until 7pm, but Keith's heat will be available to watch on iPlayer.
