Inverness Caley Thistle head coach Scott Kellacher delighted with efforts of squad after taking six points out of nine from 1200 miles of travel in a week
Inverness Caledonian Thistle head coach Scott Kellacher says his players showed immense character and got their just rewards to cap off 1200 miles of travelling last week with three more points.
Away days in quick succession to Annan Athletic, Queen of the South and Alloa Athletic was always going to be a tough ask to battle through – both because of the quality of that opposition and the amount of time Inverness would have to spend on the road.
Totalling around 1250 miles, the week started off in style with victory over Annan, who sit immediately above ICT in the League One table.
Defeat to promotion-chasing Queens on Tuesday threatened to set Caley Thistle back, but they returned to form with a valuable 2-1 win at Alloa last Saturday.
Goals from Keith Bray – the third game in-a-row the Stornoway native has scored in – as well as Aberdeen loanee Alfie Stewart got the Caley Jags over the line.
Kellacher was naturally delighted, highlighting the effort it had taken from his players to get through the most challenging of periods.
“I’m absolutely delighted, really pleased and proud,” he told the club’s media channel.
“It’s been a really tough week with the travelling and three really hard games, so to finish it off with this win, I’m really proud.
“We controlled the game in the first half, and we probably should have been further ahead, but they’ve had 10 or 15 minutes in the second half before we found our way again.
“I thought we got our just rewards and deserved the win.
“The character the boys have shown this week has been absolutely brilliant, and I’m delighted for the fans who have travelled to Annan, Queen of the South and to Alloa again in their numbers, and never stopped.
“We knew before the week started that it would be a really tough week, so we’re really happy to come away with six points out of nine.
“Our boys have shown some really strong character to play through knocks, so I’m proud of them and delighted for the fans who travelled.”
Kellacher also commented on the performances of ICT goalscorers Bray and Stewart after their match-winning contributions at Recreation Park.
“From a right back position, Keith’s a real threat,” Kellacher said of Bray.
“He’s got that willingness to work and no fear to go and head the ball. He’s got great energy to get up and down, and he’s been excellent the last wee while alongside every single one of the other boys.
“The two boys have stepped in from Aberdeen and made an impact, and that’s what we were looking for them to do.
“It was a great delivery from Alfie for our first goal, and then he takes the second really well himself.
“He needed that bit of game time, and he’s starting to get it now, so I’m really pleased for the loan boys and everyone tonight.”
