Paul Macleod leaves Nairn County as manager Steven Mackay decides to move in different direction

Nairn County have confirmed that 33-year-old defender Paul Macleod has left the club.

Only returning to Station Park on a deal until the end of the season in the summer, Macleod made five appearances to add to the 161 games he played in his first spell at the club.

Macleod returned in the midst of a significant injury crisis that left the Wee County desperately short of numbers at the back.

With Steven Mackay replacing Ronnie Sharp though, and some of those injured players returning to fitness, the experienced defender was going to struggle for minutes.

“I have known Paul since we played together at Nairn back in 2009 and I have always admired his passion and dedication to the club,” Mackay explained.

“Paul and I had an open conversation regarding the direction that the club is going and how opportunities would be limited for him, and we decided that the best outcome for both parties was for Paul to move on.

“He leaves with our best wishes, and I want to thank him for coming back to the club when we needed his support.”

Nairn's director of football, Graeme Macleod, added: “Paul came in at a time when we were at a really low ebb – he answered the call to come and help us without a moment's hesitation and I am grateful to him for that and everything he has done in a Nairn shirt.

“Everyone at the club would like to thank Paul for his service over the years and wish him to best of luck for the future."
