Merkinch Football Academy receive four figure sponsorship deal
Boys and girls who are members of the Merkinch Football Academy are to benefit from a new sponsorship deal with the trade union Unite the Union.
The £1,000 boost will help with the development of the Academy, which involves Primary 2-7 pupils at Merkinch Primary School and the Under 15 and Under 17 teams that play in the Inverness Street League.
Head coach Peter Corbett, who has a team of seven coaches, is delighted with the support from the trade union, whose logo will appear on the strips of the Street League sides.
He said: “We could not ask for a better sponsor in the Unite trade union as it fits perfectly with what we are trying to achieve within the academy – working united as a team.
"The sponsorship will help us greatly in providing football coaching in our community for children from Primary 2 upwards.”
The primary pupils meet on a Saturday morning at the local primary school for their coaching sessions and often play in the Saturday festivals run by the Scottish Football Association and McDonalds.
Marc Jackson, Unite, said: “We have been so impressed with the Merkinch Football Academy and are delighted to support such a go-ahead initiative. We hope our sponsorship will help the coaches to build on the great work they are doing in their community.”
