The Millburn Academy second year pupil broke the Inverness Harriers club under-15 record after she claimed gold with a time of four minutes and 40.11 seconds.

The 13-year-old’s victory followed up previous wins in the 800 metres at the Scottish National Championship and the Under-13 Scottish National Cross Country Championship.

Macrae says she is pleased with how her form has been as she continues to prove she is the one of the top athletes for her age group in the country.

But she ranks her victory at the Scottish Schools Championship over 1500 metres as the best of her career so far.

“I beat my previous personal best by five seconds, said Macrae.

“I didn’t have any targets going into the race, I just wanted to do my best.

“I did want to win and I did go into the race knowing that I could beat them.

“I feel that I got my tactics right and I was just ready to run the race on the day.

“I am proud of every race that I have won, but maybe i’m most proud of winning the Scottish Schools Championship because I broke the club record.”

Macrae was inspired to take up athletics by her grandfather who used to be a runner.

She started at the Aquadome Athletics Club and she also competed in the Inverness 5k from a young age before progressing to compete for the Inverness Harriers.

She says running is her main passion in life.

“I like the freedom of running, whether it is going around the track or cross country.

“You don’t think about anything else but the race at that moment of time.”

Macrae is now preparing for the Scottish National Championship in August.
