Nairn County confirm friendly has been arranged for Saturday with no competitive fixture

Nairn County once again saw their fixture fall victim to unplayable conditions last weekend.

It has been an extremely stop-start period for Brian Macleod’s men, who initially saw their match against Formartine United called off on January 25.

They were able to return to action on the first weekend of February, beating Lossiemouth 3-1 in Macleod’s first game as interim manager.

However, it was back to the drawing board last Saturday as their scheduled trip to Keith was called off due to a frozen pitch.

The latest postponement leaves Nairn with a game in hand over a number of teams around them, although there is a wide range of numbers in the “matches played” column of the league table.

Worst hit have been Strathspey Thistle, who are the only side in the division yet to hit 20 matches and have as many as five games in hand over Wick Academy and Lossiemouth, who are two and three places above them in the table respectively.

Nairn have not slipped into that danger zone yet, still sitting 12th despite their recent couple of call-offs.

A game in hand will give them the chance to leapfrog Turriff United into 11th, but it could still be a tricky battle to push on into the top half before the end of the season.

Macleod’s side are next due to be in competitive action on Saturday, February 22 when they are scheduled to travel to Strathspey.

However, they will get back on the pitch earlier than that when they play a friendly match this weekend.

With neither team due to have a league match, County have organised a friendly match against North Region Junior Championship outfit Dufftown.

It will take place at Station Park this Saturday, kicking off at 3pm. Entry will be £5 for adults, while children and members of Club 1914 will get free entry.

Nairn have also confirmed a new date for their league match against Buckie Thistle. It was initially set to be played on November 23, but will instead take place on March 1 at Station Park.
