Nairn County legend hands up boots as Highland League club’s record appearance holder Glenn Main announces retirement after final spell with St Ninian
Nairn footballing legend Glenn Main has announced his retirement from the game.
The 40-year-old spent the vast majority of his career with Nairn County, becoming the record appearance maker at Station Park.
He scored in the 2011 Highland League Cup final success, and also played a part in the triumphant 2012 North of Scotland Cup final.
In total, he made 496 appearances for the Wee County after coming through the youth ranks with the Highland League outfit.
Main would eventually leave Station Park permanently in November 2022, playing the last couple of years of his career with Nairn St Ninian.
His final game was a cup final, just losing out with the Nairn Saints to Culter in the North Regional Cup showcase at the end of last month.

St Ninian manager Stuart Finnie commented on Main’s decision: “I spoke to Glenn as we were getting towards the end of the season and asked his thoughts on playing for another year and he said he would think about it.
“Having watched him in the Regional Cup final against Culter I thought he was outstanding and certainly looked like he had another year in him, but since then I have spoken to him again and he has decided that it is time for him to spend more time with his partner Keri and his two boys Jack and Ethan and his daughter Jessica.
“I honestly cannot grudge him that as he has dedicated himself to football between Nairn Saints and Nairn County for over 20 years now.
“I would like to especially thank Glenn for his help and having faith in what I’ve tried to achieve for the last two years since I took over, he has been superb with the younger players and tried to pass everything he has learnt onto them.
“Glenn is a brilliant example to all young players in the town for what he has achieved and is a genuine legend, it’s been a privilege to see what he has accomplished in his playing career and I really hope he is proud of his career also. I’m just sorry we couldn’t give him a cup winners medal to finish on.”
