Nairn County appoint long-serving committee member Kevin Reid as new chairman following Mark Kelman’s resignation from role at Highland League club

Nairn County have confirmed the appointment of a new chairman.

Kevin Reid has taken over the role from Mark Kelman, who has stepped down from the post after three years at the helm – a period which saw the club win the North of Scotland Cup in 2023 for their first trophy in 11 years.

On departing the club, Kelman said: "I would like to thank everyone at the club for their support during my time as chairman. Nairn County is truly a special club with a great setup and fantastic fans.

“Unfortunately, the time I have had to dedicate to the club has reduced over the past year, and I feel it is only fair to the club that I step back to allow the club to move forward.

“I wish the club every success in the future and I am sure great things lie ahead with Kevin as chairman."

Reid has been involved with Nairn County for 27 years, having been on the management committee in various roles over that period. His tenure as chairman begins with immediate effect.

On his appointment, Reid said: "I am honoured to be made chairman of Nairn County Football Club.

“It goes without saying it has been a difficult period for the club on and off the pitch this season but I would like to place on record my thanks to Mark, who put in a power of work behind the scenes, which was rarely recognised, but it is now all about looking forward and building a strong future on and off the field for Nairn County."

"I am an ambitious individual and I am excited for where the club can go. It is going to take a lot of hard work and I am asking as someone that holds this club very close to my heart that I will need everyone's support to drive us forward.

“With this in mind, I would also ask that if there is anyone else that would like to be involved with the club in any capacity to not hesitate to come and speak to me.

"There is a lot of work to do but I am looking forward to starting today and meeting the challenges head on."

One of Reid’s first ports of call will be to confirm a new first team manager, following the departure of Ross Tokely in January and interim manager Brian Macleod’s disinterest in taking it on full time.
