Nairn 10k attracts hundreds of runners on a record breaking day with winners from Maryburgh and Inverness





Hundreds of runners took part in the Nairn 10k as history was made with the fastest time ever recorded at the event on Sunday.

Maryburgh athlete Sean Chalmers, running for Aberdeen Athletics Club, won the event for the second time as he broke the record with a time of 30 minutes and three seconds.

The 29-year-old obliterated the old course record by 30 seconds, which was previously set by Mark Mitchell of Forres Harriers in 2012 who ran 30:33.

Inverness Harriers athlete Jenny Bannerman won the women’s title for the ninth time when claimed victory in 37.40.

Before the race, organisers had reported they had over 310 entries for the event on Sunday. The Nairn 5k fun run also took place after the Nairn 10K had begun.
