Kings Golf Club held a special match for the first time to commemorate the opening of the 2024 season at the Inverness course.
The match between the Captain’s team and Vice Captain’s team took place on Saturday with 72 players competing in a better ball matchplay format.
The Vice Captain’s team led by Eric Robb, were victorious as they defeated Captain’s Andrew Stokes team 9.5 to 8.5 to lift the trophy.
Stokes said he wanted to organise a special event to mark the start of the 2024 season.
“It was something that we haven’t done before so this was our inaugural season opener,” he said.
“In the past, we usually do a monthly medal and have never done an official opening as such.
“Coming in as captain, I thought that it would be great to start the season was something different and it will now become an annual event.

“A total of 32 players took part and it was a shotgun start with a social event before and after so everybody was together.
“We put different players together who ordinarily wouldn’t play golf with each other, so it was a random event.
“It was a very close match before vice captain Eric Robb’s team were presented with the winning trophy.
“The losing team received a wooden spoon, which Eric had the pleasure of presenting me with.
“It was a great fun and something different for the start of the season in what was a thoroughly enjoyable day.”
Both teams had a mix of men and women which included senior and non senior members for the match.
Kings Golf Club opened in 2019 at Torvean and its membership has grown to almost 900 people.
It is also the first year that Stokes is captain of the club and says he takes great pride in holding the position.
He said: “I was delighted to be appointed captain after being vice captain for a number of years.
“To step up to captain is an extreme honour, I love the club and playing at the course as the people make the club.
“We have increased our membership substantially in the last four years and things are going well.”
