With the Shinty-Hurling international now just two weeks away, new Scotland manager Garry Reid will finalise his 20 man squad this weekend.

On Sunday, 30 players will gather at Newtonmore in a final get together where Reid will have whittled the squad down to 20 for the match against Ireland at Bught Park on Saturday, October 20.

The selection process is about the only part of the job that Reid is not looking forward to.

“When you have 30 of the game’s top players it is very difficult. First of all you have to decide who’s in and who’s out and then you have to break the bad news to the guys left out.

“The top four strikers in shinty - Evan Menzies, Kevin Bartlett, Andrew McCuish and Greg Matheson- are all in contention but can we accommodate all four - it is going to be difficult.

“The attitude in the squad is first class and I really could not have asked for a better response.”

Tomorrow, Beauly host Inveraray in the final match of the Marine Harvest National Division league programme.

There is little at stake for third from bottom Beauly, other than club pride, but for the visitors it is a match of vital significance. Win or draw and they will be promoted to next season’s Premiership but a defeat would send Fort William into the top league.

Currently Fort , with their schedule complete, sit one point above the Argyll-shire side who crucially have a superior goal difference.

In the Premiership, Skye will be seeking a stay of execution with the axe hovering over their top flight future.

They need a high scoring win against Oban Camanachd at Mossfield to have a realistic chance of avoiding the drop and drawing level on points with Caberfeidh. The islanders great escape would be completed next Saturday if Kinlochshiel hand a heavy defeat to Caberfeidh in the Ross-shire derby.

In the area league, Glenurquhart reserves head west to face Kinlochshiel in their final match.
