Squash star Clyne wins eighth Scottish title

SQUASH champion Alan Clyne beat close friend and long-time training partner Greg Lobban to claim an eighth Scottish title on Sunday in Edinburgh.

The defending champion Clyne, originally from Munlochy, overcame top-seeded North Kessock competitor Lobban by three games to one in the final to win his third title in a row.

The pair had shared the first two games of the final before Clyne found an extra gear to defeat his doubles partner from the Commonwealth Games 11-3, 6-11, 11-2, 11-6.

“Greg keeps pushing the bar higher and higher in training and keeps pushing me on,” said Clyne after his win.

“It’s tough to play him because we’re such good mates and I knew it was going to be a tough match.

“Winning my eighth national title is great, but you don’t think about the numbers. I’m 32 now, but I’ve had a good summer and feel I’m still improving.
