Tournament set to pave the way for new league

An annual Highlands and Islands women’s football tournament was held at Dingwall Academy last weekend.

Six teams from all over the region congregated to play 20-minute, 11-a-side matches in a round robin format, with the Western Isles team of Lewis and Harris leaving as winners.

Ross County’s side finished second, one place ahead of Inverness City Development, with Nairn, Brora and Orkney rounding off the standings.

The Scottish Football Association’s north region girls and women’s club development officer Jo Murphy was delighted with how the tournament went, noting that this year it is building up to the formation of an official league.

"This has been the best attended tournament we’ve had to date, which is great," she enthused.
