DANI Sanchez looks set to be out for almost two months after breaking three bones in his hand at the weekend.

The Caley Thistle star came off the bench in the second half of Saturday’s 5-1 Scottish Cup win against Morton then suffered three shattering breaks in an accidental collision, leading to a visit to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

Boss Terry Butcher said: “Dani’s had an operation after sustaining three broken bones in his hand. He had screws put in, which can come out if the surgeon thinks that’s right. It’s hard to put a timescale on it, but you are looking at least two months before he’s back.

“We took Eric off and put Dani on and he was sharp. He put a cross in for Richie Foran, which was well defended. He then set up Chris Hogg for the third goal, so he was terrific.

“He’s a popular member of the squad, well liked by all the players. It’s a real shame for him. It’s come at a time when he was scoring goals and looking sharp.

“He’s impressed me, knuckled down and worked hard. His confidence has risen and it’s a real blow he’s going to be out. He didn’t want to be put in plaster, he’s desperate to get out there playing once again. We wish him well and hope he gets back soon.”

It means that, as well as important SPL matches, the Spaniard will also sit out the Scottish Cup tie against Rangers or Celtic on March 13.
