Aberdeen physics teacher runs to men's title at Inverness Campus 5K
MICHAEL Ferguson claimed victory on his debut at the Inverness Campus 5k held on Friday night.
The Aberdeen Amateur Athletics Club athlete proved too good for the chasing pack as he claimed victory with a time of 14 minutes and 46 seconds.
He was seven seconds ahead of Lachlan Oates of Shettleston Harriers who finished in 14.53 with Andrew Thomson of Fife Athletics Club third in 15.05.
Ferguson (28) a physics teacher at Bucksburn Academy in Aberdeen, who was one second quicker than his watch indicated, says he pleased with how he performed in what he predicted would be a close battle with Oates for the title.
"I wasn't really bothered about the time, I just wanted a good race, "he said.
"Lachlan is always a good man to race against and I managed to get the better of him today."
Ferguson says conditions were good for racing at the course although in parts he had to maintain caution.

"It was a bit slippy underfoot at two corners, but overall it wasn't too much so overall conditions were almost too hot.
"It is my first time doing the event, it is really well organised and I am happy that I came up."
Ferguson is now looking ahead to the rest of the season and he looks to build on his success in Inverness.
"I am doing the Glasgow Miler Meet, that is another 5000 metres run but this time on the track.
"After that, i'm not sure, but it will be a half marathon, there is one in London I want to do and is a big target."
