LEADING Ross County to the top flight is Derek Adams’ greatest managerial accomplishment so far — even surpassing taking them to the Scottish Cup final two years ago.

The 36-year-old has masterminded a 30 league game unbeaten run creating an unassailable 17-point lead at the summit of the First Division — an defeated streak he wants to extend into the former Highland League club’s first-ever SPL campaign.

He knows second-place Dundee will aim to spoil the championship party at Victoria Park tomorrow, but is sure his players will tackle the challenge with the same professionalism which saw them win 3-1 at Ayr United 24 hours after securing promotion.

“Without a doubt winning any championship is much harder than cup competitions and we previously won the Second Division championship which was great when we were under a lot of pressure,” Adams said.

“But we’ve excelled this season. We have been absolutely tremendous and deserve to have won the championship.

“An unbeaten run of 30 games in the First Division is very difficult and the players have been magnificent — I can’t ask for anymore.

“It’s great for them that they will get the opportunity of playing in the SPL because they have worked so hard to do that.

“We will try to play the same way, which is important because we have talented players in the squad. ”

Michael Gardyne, Colin McMenamin and Sam Morrow were on target for the Staggies at Somerset Park, as County came under the media magnifying glass once again.

“They were under a wee bit of pressure to perform because there was a lot of media spotlight and they certainly did that,” Adams commented.

“It’s great that we will be back at Victoria Park on Saturday and I’m looking forward to seeing a big crowd because it’s been a tremendous season for everybody involved in the club.”
