Inverness Caley Thistle hope that former Newcastle United and Liverpool youth Luis Longstaff could still feature this season

Inverness Caledonian Thistle hope that Luis Longstaff will be able to play a part in the club’s League One run in.

The 24-year-old winger has not featured since going off in the first half of ICT’s draw with Montrose at the start of this month.

There had been concern over whether that was Longstaff’s season done, but he is due to undergo surgery next week and head coach Scott Kellacher is not ruling out seeing him back on the pitch before the summer.

Similarly, there is some optimism over the fitness of long-term absentee Lewis Nicolson, who has missed the entire campaign through injury.

Nicolson is one of three long-term injury concerns making progress in their respective comebacks.

“We’ve got four injuries with Luis Longstaff, Jake Davidson, Lewis Nicolson and Ben Corner, and we’ve looked after them,” Kellacher said.

“They haven’t had to wait long for operations and scans, so they have had good care.

“Hopefully they will be back soon. Lewis is back running, which is great, but he has been out long-term so we’re hoping he can be back in the squad by the end of the season.

We maybe never spoke enough about Jake at the time, because he was a big player for us as one of our senior players, and he was a massive loss for us.

“Ben is one of the young boys, and then Luis is going for his operation next week.

“I’m not getting too excited, but I’m hoping he can be back in by the last couple of games of the season.”
