Wilson says Caley Thistle youth can make the step up

INVERNESS Caledonian Thistle coach Barry Wilson says the club’s youth squad have proven to management they can make the step up if called upon to help the first team this season.

He was speaking after ICT booked their place in the North of Scotland Cup final with a 4-0 victory against Forres Mechanics on Tuesday night.

Wilson fielded seven teenagers in the semi final with Daniel Mackay, who has already featured for the first team during the last two seasons, scoring twice against the in-form Highland League side.

Roddy MacGregor and Jack Brown also found the net in an impressive performance which will see them face Ross County in next month’s final.

Wilson said the club may not be able to compete financially with other clubs in the Scottish Championship.

But he says the talent in the youth ranks does give Inverness greater depth.
