Beach goers invited to contribute creatively To DanceLive 2020 Festival Film
Beach goers are being invited to play a creative role in a performance this Sunday, October 18 at the DanceLive festival.
Dancers Laura Booth and Katie Taylor from Aberdeen are asking people to visit their local beach and then record their experience seeking input in the form of video, voice recording, photograph, drawing or dance.
The results will be gathered to form a film to be called ‘clearing' which will be debuted on Sunday.
Laura and Katie will be issuing daily prompts on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and asking beach goers to respond to these prompts on their visit.
Laura Booth, dance artist said: "Our performance is called ‘clearing' - it is a place to play, to seek sanctuary, to be in motion and in stillness.
"Float through the ocean, explore the shore, find yourself between the comfort of the clouds and the support of the sand.
"Throughout DanceLive 2020 we're inviting everyone to join us in exploring the beach, whether that is Aberdeenshire beach, your local beach or your bedroom beach."
Katie Taylor, contemporary artist added: "From Thursday to Saturday a prompt will be shared online each morning as a starting point for a visit to the beach.
"After your trip to the beach we ask that you send us a recording of what you have experienced, this can be through film, a voice recording, a photograph, a drawing, a dance, whatever form you would like this to take."
Laura and Katie ask that recordings are sent to clearingdancelive@gmail.com by Saturday, October 17 at 5pm.
Katie continues: "We will be gathering all of the recordings to create a film.
"On Sunday at 3.30pm there will be an online screening giving us the opportunity to see where each of our discoveries have taken us."
Clearing is just one performance in a packed four-day DanceLive 2020 programme of digital live performances, dance films, workshops and Q&As. Highlights of the programme include:
Eowyn Emerald and Dancers who will present a full length film of their Edinburgh Festival Fringe sellout show, described as "physical, poetic, technically demanding and emotionally complex"on Saturday 17th at 6pm.
Moon Capers by ShaperCaper - a streamed presentation of a short suitable for ages four to nine and their families takes place on Sunday 18 at 11am.
Introducing … Antigone Interrupted by Scottish Dance Theatre a unique online event combining footage from the original stage production, scenes reimagined for the digital medium and real time meet-the-artist conversation.
The event will give audiences an opportunity to "meet the characters" and hear from choreographer Joan Clevillé and dancer Solène Weinachter on Saturday at 3pm.
DanceLive, which is supported by Aberdeen City Council, Creative Scotland and EventScotland takes place from October 15 to 18.
Tickets cost £7 for a day's pass and £25 for a festival pass which will give access to the whole four- day programme.
