Bogbain returns to its Northern Roots
FESTIVAL lovers have new dates for their diary, as Bogbain announce the first acts scheduled for the Northern Roots festival.
Trad stars Lau, up-and-coming folk group Tidelines, and Del Amitri’s Justin Currie have all been lined up to play at the Bogbain Farm event on June 23-24, replacing the cancelled Brew at the Bog.
A spokesman for the event said: “As you may be aware Brew at the Bog isn't going to be happening this year. The sad news was announced in November by last year’s organiser, Mint 77.
“It's a great pity as there were so many amazing acts over the years and Bogbain loved being at the heart of it all.
“Our aim is to develop Northern Roots into the boutique music festival in Scotland, one where music lovers gather to celebrate the very best in Scottish music of all genres.”
Mint 77’s owner Yvonne Murray had announced that this year’s Brew at the Bog would be cancelled, and Mint 77 wound up, due to ill health.
Following the announcement, several of the acts came forward to allege that they hadn’t been paid – including the venue’s proprietor and Blazin’ Fiddles star Bruce MacGregor.
At the time, he said: “It is really disappointing in many respects as the festival was a great champion of unsigned and emerging Scottish talent, and had built up a loyal following.
“However as with many of the events that happen at Bogbain, we were just the venue but weren't involved in the actual running of the festival.
“My own band, Blazin’ Fiddles, finds itself in the same situation as many of the unpaid bands from this year’s event.”
