Catch Karen Gillan's latest movie roles
by Margaret Chrystall
THERE are only two days next week when fans of Inverness actress Karen Gillan need be without their big screen fix of the former Doctor Who star.
Cinemas in Inverness, Aviemore and Aberdeen will have Guardians Of The Galaxy from next Thursday while Moray Playhouse in Elgin will have it next Friday, the official release date.
But in Inverness, you can also catch her in Oculus on the big screen for a few days too.
Horror Oculus (15) didn’t have the critics raving for the movie itself, but Karen’s performance was one of the high spots. You can catch it at Eden Court Cinema: tomorrow (Friday) 8.15pm, Saturday 6.15pm, Sunday 7.15pm; and Monday 7pm.
No-one can blame Karen for not stretching herself in as many different genres of movie as she can get her hands on post time-travelling TV stardom.
After last year’s Scottish-set rom-com Not Another Happy Ending, Karen did Oculus and Guardians Of The Galaxy, a romantic comedy called The List yet to be released and is now set to follow these with a western out in 2015 called In A Valley Of Violence, with co-stars John Travolta and Ethan Hawke.
Meanwhile Karen’s next role is in My Fair Lady-inspired new TV drama Selfie starting on September 30 in America. Karen plays the lead, the fame-obsessed Eliza Dooley.
But it’s Marvel theatricality all the way as evil villain Nebula in Guardians Of The Galaxy for which she shaved her head and spent four and a half hours a day during filming getting her make-up done.
Vue Inverness reveal their timings for screenings next Thursday (July 31) are:
2D version: Thursday: 10.30am, 1.30pm, 4.30pm, 7.30pm, 10.30pm.
And the 3D version is on: Thursday: 11.30am, 2.30pm, 5.30pm, 8.30pm.
Here's the extended trailer, but blink and you'll miss Karen!
