RIDING round New York City in the Bat Mobile, luring numerous gold-diggers to his magnetic floating bed and throwing cash at passers by are but a few of the crazy antics of booze-addled billionaire Arthur.

Arthur (Russell Brand) relies heavily on his bottomless pit of money from the family fortune and his nanny Hobson (Helen Mirren) – yes, the 30-year-old character still has a nanny!

The pairing of Brand and Mirren is marvellous and their relationship was the most endearing part of the movie for me. With a cold-hearted mother and a father long passed away, Hobson is the closest thing to real family Arthur has. You get the impression he would never have survived his lavish lifestyle without the firm and critical guidance of strict Hobson.

Casting naturally flamboyant Brand in this role was a stroke of genius.

Arthur eventually has to choose between an arranged marriage to money-hungry business woman Susan (Jennifer Garner) or being cut off from the family money if he chooses life with his penniless love Naomi (Greta Gerwig).

Enjoyable and at times touching.
