Inverness Film Fans offer up celebration of Oscar winning writer/director Billy Wilder with screening of three movies at Eden Court: Ace in the Hole; One, Two, Three; and Irma La Douce
A CELEBRATION of one of the most celebrated directors from Hollywood’s golden age is the basis of InFiFa’s next season.
Billy Wilder was responsible for some of the most beloved films of all time – including Some Like it Hot, The Apartment and Sunset Boulevard.
And the Inverness Film Fans’ next season will be highlighting some of his lesser known films – screening Ace in the Hole on Monday, July 22; One, Two, Three on Monday, August 5; and Irma La Douce on Monday, August 19.
All three screenings will take place at Eden Court.
Initially panned on its release, Ace in the Hole is now regarded as one of Billy’s great masterpieces – with its excoriating portrayal of journalism and the public’s desire for it.
One, Two, Three is a fast and frantic satire on corporate politics and Cold War paranoia, about an executive visiting West Berlin trying to stop his daughter from eloping with an East Berlin communist.
Irma La Douce – one of Billy Wilder’s biggest box office hits – was adapted from the 1956 French musical, and tells the tale of prostitute Irma and smitten pimp Nestor.
