A Marx Brothers farce, a Bob Fosse fable and more as Inverness Film Fans tune up for new music-themed season of films at Eden Court, Inverness
A MARX Brothers farce, a Bob Fosse fable, and a film held up by the greats of cinema are among the picks for a particularly tuneful upcoming Inverness Film Fans season.
The film buffs’ latest selection of films are based on the topic of music - this October, November and December, InFiFa will screen five films at Eden Court, all to whom music is an integral part.
Unfaithfully Yours, Tales of Hoffman, All that Jazz, Hillary and Jackie, and A Night at the Opera will all be screened at the Inverness theatre and cinema, with all welcome to attend.
Preston Sturges' Unfaithfully Yours is a typically witty and wild screwball comedy starring Rex Harrison as a symphony conductor named Alfred de Carter who is convinced his wife (Linda Darnell) is having an affair.
During one of his concerts, Alfred begins planning three different ways of solving the problem -- including murder – setting each to a different classical piece.
The Powell and Pressburger classic Tales of Hoffman is based on the 1881 opera by Jacques Offenbach. An anthology of fantastic and romantic adventures, the film has been singled out by film making legends as diverse as Cecil B. DeMille, Martin Scorsese and George A. Romero.
Director and choreographer Bob Fosse and star Roy Scheider are at the top of their respective games in All that Jazz. Fosse effectively tells his own life story as he details the sordid life of Joe Gideon (Scheider), a womanizing, drug-using dancer.
Fosse survived his hedonism and through this great film he sought to warn others away from its inevitable effects.
The touching and incredible true story of Jacqueline and Hilary du Pre, the gifted musical sisters who grew up in England in the 1950s, Hillary and Jackie was written and produced as a tribute to Jackie.
The story traces her rapid rise to international fame and the devastating consequences it had on her and those she loved.
A Marx Brothers classic, A Night at the Opera tells the story of a sly business manager and two wacky friends (Groucho, Harp and Chico Marx) and two opera singers help them achieve success while humiliating their stuffy and snobbish enemies and also help a love sick opera singer woo the lady of his dreams.
