Kate is an AmaSing songwriter
STRATHPEFFER’S AmaSing Festival has named Glasgow singer-songwriter Kate Dunn as the winner of its first Marie Tait Songwriting Competition with her song Wave to the Sky.
In addition to a live appearance at the festival on Sunday 1st September, Dunn wins two days of recording at Bruce MacGregor’s Bogbain Farm studio, a festival appearance at Belladrum Festival and a year’s promo support from Medicine Music with booking support through the European House Concert Hub.
A recent music honours graduate from the University of Strathclyde, Dunn plays piano, violin, viola, saxophone, guitar, and bass.
She started penning tunes at the age of 17 and playing them for her friends at house parties. It was not until university that she started to go to open mic nights, after kind words were expressed by fellow musicians in Halls of Residence.
At university she also formed a band, Kate Dunn and the Redunndants with five other multi instrumentalists.
They toured around Scotland and got airplay on Jim Gellatly’s Podcast, Aberdeen radio station Northsound 1 and university radio stations across the country. Dunn now gigs as a solo artist.
Along with writing and performing her own music, Dunn is a session musician and has played viola for Finding Albert, French Wives and Pronto Mama on various recordings and performances.
