Hometown heroes Lional are set to kick off their summer with a bang – with a new single and a launch party at Inverness’s Ironworks.

The indie-rock quartet will play the city venue on Saturday, June 23 alongside special guests Indigo Velvet and FOREIGNFOX, to coincide with the release of latest tune Dark Sunglasses.

This will mark the second time that Lional have headlined the Ironworks in the space of six months, after taking the top slot at independent record label IMOUT Records’ end-of-year showcase last December.

Lional frontman Josh Mackenzie said: “We are incredibly excited about our first hometown gig of 2018. We’ll be airing a set of predominantly fresh material, including brand new single Dark Sunglasses.

“We also have two ridiculously good supports for the night in Indigo Velvet and ForeignFox.”

Since forming in 2014, the Inverness “noir-pop” act have been making waves. The Herald named three of their songs in the top 20 of their top 100 Scottish tunes of 2015 – with top entry Season of Salt coming in at number 11.

The band spent the first half of 2017 writing and rehearsing new material, culminating in studio sessions with producer Colin Elliot (Richard Hawley, Paul Weller, Duane Eddie, Kylie Minogue) at Yellow Arch studios in Sheffield – with the first song from these sessions, Moonlight, released in March this year.

The show at the Ironworks forms part of a packed summer which will also see them return to this year’s Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival.

Lional join a recent spate of announcements from the Ironworks – on the same day the venue also announced a gig from chamber-folk quartet Rant and a new TECHnique club night featuring Glasgow DJ duo illyus and Barrientos.

Tickets (£10) for the Lional gig are available from the Ironworks – go to www.ironworksvenue.com for more info.
